mirabai
Mirabai, also called Meera, was a Princess, Poet and Mystic in 16 century India. Many of her poems are still sung today. Mirabai was so totally in love with Krishna that she did not want to marry, but she was forced to. She expressed her love through song and dance, defying her husband, her father the king and the priests. Mirabai danced her way in to the temple of Krishna forbidden for women. Here she is depicted as daring to jump in to the unknown. Much like the ‘Fool’ in the Tarot, she steps into the abyss. Abandon and Trust. Mirabai is part of my ‘Zodiac’ of enlightened women, Representing Cancer, the element of Water. Mirabai is mounted on a basalt or a granite rock, coming from the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. POETRY IN BRONZE….. ”I know a cure for sadness” This was the title of an exhibition of my work in Amsterdam in the spring of 2017. ‘Mirabai’ was the center piece of this show; other work was shown with her poetry: The poems have been translated by Daniel Ladinsky.
